The People behind the scene

Meet our team

A collective of Deadheads who moved to Portugal and found each other. We are the Deadheads of Lagos.

Mike and Taylor Palmer

Roam Away From Home

Former Attorney and Financial Analyst turned world-traveling music chasers. Although Mike and Taylor didn’t grow up with the Dead, they always had a love for live music. They got engaged at a music festival, have seen over 1,000 concerts, and were always searching for that perfect sound.

Turns out… that perfect sound found them in 2017 when they first saw Dead & Co thanks to a 2 for $20 ticket deal… and they never looked back.

Mike and Taylor left their corporate jobs, bought a 1986 van, sold their house, and traveled the world in pursuit of all things Grateful Dead, Phish, jam band scene, and anything else that gave them a reason to travel while seeing live music.

After three years of life on the road in the US and Mexico (and spending some time in Costa Rica), they moved to Portugal in 2023. They chose Portugal for the music scene, chill vibes, sunny climate, and beautiful culture. It didn’t take long to find their local music community, and they’re so grateful they did.

It’s been a dream to bring the love, music, and celebration of the Grateful Dead to our great community of Lagos, Portugal.

Carrie and Jeff

Deadheads of Lagos

Carrie and Jeff are both long time Deadheads, together they total more than 100 Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia shows from coast to coast. After Jerry’s untimely death, that number is easily doubled with all the different configurations of post-Jerry bands; The Other Ones, The Dead, Further, and Dead & Company.

Jeff was lucky enough to catch his first show during the spring ’77 tour, just before the infamous Barton Hall Cornell show, at the New Haven Coliseum on May 5th. Carrie’s first was a year later at the same venue on 5/11/78.

With New England being our stomping ground, we naturally gravitated to many festivals. Gathering of the Vibes (originally Deadhead Heaven) began in 1996 and continued to 2015. It was one of the first of its kind to carry on the spirit of the Grateful Dead scene. We spent several years volunteering on the hotline and made many longtime friends.

Since moving to Portugal in early 2023, we’ve had to travel out of country to see decent Dead jams. Our goal is to simply keep the music alive and what better place to do so than in the Algarve?! Bringing the jam bands to us, so we can keep our freak flag flying!

Jim “Jimbo” Scheffer

Lagos Food Dude

Jim retired to Lagos in 2022 from San Diego, California. First show….. the Allman Brothers Band played in Gaelic Park in the Bronx, New York, with Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir on July 17, 1972.

The Grateful Dead members joined the Allmans for a legendary jam on “Mountain Jam,” after the Allmans had played in Hartford, Connecticut, the previous night, during which Allman Brothers members had sat in with the Grateful Dead.

The Date: The show took place on July 17, 1972, though it was originally scheduled for July 13 and may have been rained out. The Venue: The concert was held at Gaelic Park, a sports field in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York.

The Collaboration: After members of the Allman Brothers Band sat in with the Grateful Dead the night before in Hartford, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir returned the favor, joining the Allman Brothers on stage at Gaelic Park.
